Hi Andrea!

I know that this is not a recent post, but I stumbled upon it for what seems to be a VERY good reason; I used to do ALL of it. What an eye opener. Thank you so much for the post! I stopped telling strangers what their "guides" revealed to me because it just felt intrusive. I did it one time and that was enough for me.

Years ago I got a message in for a co-worker that I really didn't know, and it was a message that a woman was going to steal her identity. I struggled for days on if I should tell her, and then finally decided that if the shoe was on the other foot, I would want to be told. So into her office I went, and told her. Thank goodness she wasn't weirded out about it....perhaps because I had the name of the woman who was going to do it. She told me the woman was her best friend and she had planned on having lunch with her that day...but because of the warning, canceled it. 2 weeks later she was called by another friend who was sobbing because this girl had stolen her identity, credit cards, etc and it was a real mess.

I guess it's all about HOW you do it. But after that I really didn't want to be the one who goes around warning strangers of impending doom, so I kind of "took myself of the spiritual list" of people willing to do this kind of work. Now, I do it for my bookkeeping clients, as a "Financial Intuitive," but ONLY if they ask for it, and it has helped them tremendously. Normally, if people don't directly ask for it, it won't help them anyway, and they tend to "run" when they see you coming!

This was a hilarious article and as a professional intuitive i found great humor in it. I also was a trained psycho therapist, so the psychic part was something, that took me a while to accept, publicly. I especially like the far away look, cause I DO do that. I really do see visions and look up and to the right when they come through. Someitmes I close my eyes. When I did a tape for a show, they asked me where are u looking and I explained that is how i access visions. your periphereal vision is the opening of your third eye.. That is why we think we see ghosts, out of the corner of our eyes, cause we do! I promise you though , I don't where a turbin. I still found the article humourous and well written.

I don't yet have the confidence to think myself worthy to even try to be a professional intuitive consultant - but as a "client", I wouldn't listen to a word told to me by such people as described here. Such behavior, to me, would indicate a large degree of unawareness.

As an aside...in reading this and other such sites I note a remarkable paucity of men. What's the deal with that?

Andrea, I love this post. It's about really trusting that we have our answers...that we are connected to spirit... I've learned that I need to listen... I'm good at listening to others, but not always to my own intuition... Thank you..

Once a few years ago I was in my favorite metaphysical bookstore when I saw an older woman chase a couple and their child to the door of the store to tell them something that her guide had told her about their child. Needness to say, she scared the couple with information they didn't ask for and weren't prepared to handle. They couldn't get out of the store fast enough and probably never came back.

What I saw was a woman desperate to sell her psychic abilities to people who weren't even interested. This woman was supposed to be a world famous psychic. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth for a long time. If I had ever considered having this woman do a reading for me, she changed my mind with her demonstration in the bookstore. She didn't quietly pull the couple aside and gently give them the information. She scared them away with her aggressiveness. Everybody in the store could hear the information that she was directed to tell the couple. Her behavior was totally unprofessional and inappropriate.

Andrea - THIS is EXACTLY why I've been struggling with in calling myself a professional psychic - instead of something like an "intuitive consultant". It's more obscure - but less flaky. The word "psychic" has a bad rep... When I think of the work psychic I think of psychic fair charlatans - because that is what I've always heard from those around me. Hence the reticence.

Has "professional psychic" worked better for you than "professional intuitive (consultant)"?

Blessings,
Keena

Andrea, this is right on!! I love your post...I was in gales of laughter due to its(unfortunate!!)truth! Great post!
Thanks for being 'out there' to positively promote all of those who are wanting to very respectfully provide high quality intuitive services to our clients....with permission from clients! And thanks for letting people know that we can all learn to develop and trust our own intuitive skills.

I'm more on the client end of things. I didn't realize it could get *this* bad, but I have had some annoying psychic experiences (not to mention unhelpful and unsupportive, while being proffered as the Truth, just as you said).

One incident happened at a book fair. I was there offering my book for writers and a fellow author, an intuitive from Santa Fe, was there offering her book on self-awareness. I was at her booth, chatting about my fears of putting myself more into the public with my book, when she got that faraway look in her eye. She then pronounced that she had looked into my aura and could see this limitation was about Judgments I was holding.

First of all, she scared the pants off me with her low-voiced, melodramatic way of announcing this. It took me right back to childhood and that fear of being in trouble. Secondly, it was intrusive. When did I give her permission to do that? Thirdly, this did not make me want to avail myself of her services.

"Why?" she might ask. Because she did the opposite of winning my trust. Trust is the first indicator I look for when choosing someone to work with. And I wasn't impressed with her method of proving how psychic she is.

Andrea, thanks for another great article. And your new site is gorgeous!
