Trusting Our Soul’s Decisions
The thing about developing our intuition is this: The mind always wants proof.
Most people who feel they need to work on developing their intuitive abilities actually receive information from the spiritual realm just fine! But then the mind gets a hold of the information … and often destroys it with its need for proof.
When we receive guidance, the immediate questions the mind poses are: “Where will this guidance take me? What will the outcome be if I do this? Is this correct? Is this really going to work? How do I know this is really right for me?”
By the time the mind is done asking these questions, any sense of clarity we had has usually disappeared!
If we are to dedicate ourselves to using our intuition – not just receiving guidance but actually ACTING on it – we have to get comfortable with mental dissatisfaction.
Intuitive guidance isn’t reasonable, logical, or rational when we receive it. Only in hindsight do we witness the elegant unfolding of events that came from acting on an intuitive impulse. Then it makes perfect sense. But not when the information first comes.
Intuitive guidance leaves the mind dissatisfied, because it is not OF the mind. But isn’t that exactly what we want?
Our mind can only take us so far in life. Our mind is a wonderful tool. But at some point, reason and logic cease to yield the results we want. If we want to grow and evolve beyond where we are right now, we need a new source of decision-making.
Can we allow our Soul to make our decisions for us? This is the essence of an intuitive impulse – a higher aspect of ourselves saying: “This way”! It is our Soul, deciding which way to go. And most of the time, we argue with it!
Do you trust your Soul to point you in the right direction? Even if you can’t rationally, reasonably explain “why” the direction is “right?” Or do you trust your mind more?
This is really the decision we must come to when we develop our intuition. Are we willing to trust our Soul more than we do our mind? If your mind and its decisions are not creating the results you want, the choice seems obvious! What if we allow our Soul to decide?
Blessings,
Andrea

That was a useful read for me Andrea, lately I have been having a bit of trouble getting things done. I think I see what the trouble is, I am highly mental in my approach to many things, I like to be able to have some idea of how things work, or at least “think I know”.
Had a strong dream, that in itself is unusual for me, rarely remember anything. I was on a cliff edge, sheer drop down through clouds, so it was jump or take a bridge over to the other side. I thought I knew what it meant, it was about taking a leap of faith rather than same old on the other side over the bridge.
This piece has focused that for me, it is all about letting go and doing, not being sure of the outcome, about trusting my inner self. Not an easy step for me but one I must take to progress.
Thanks
Ray
When I or one of my clients becomes a bit too analytical, I am reminded of a pearl of wisdom I received from one of my teachers, which goes like this;
“The mind is not a fit vehicle for this journey”. That says it all for me.

Mary, I LOVEd your quote, thank you!
Ray, What a lovely gift your dream was! Thank you for sharing (& choosing!)
This is great Andrea,
I have been reading the “Power of the Soul” series. For me; It seems to distill all the religious texts into the concise essence of mastery, the next level in this ‘road less traveled’. I believe what you are offering Andrea is divine, What a lovely course. Love on!
I wish I knew more, but I don’t want to pay for it
. I’m sure we all know, but I think the real difficulty is understanding what an intuitive impulse is and differentiating that from what has been made up by the mind. I feel sometimes like my mind is literally just making stuff up randomly to make me feel like I am having an intuitive hit, but in reality its just something I made up that won’t lead me anywhere but will try to make up for my lack of wisdom by trying to replicate the feeling of an intuitive “hit”. For example, if right now I were to ask my intuition what to do, I’m having an impulse to go to the kitchen and eat a ton of jam and bread – in retrospect it is obvious that I made that up, and I didn’t do it deliberately to prove my point. It was mind-made randomness. We need a system, a procedure through which one may listen to the intuition and differentiate it from mental confusion! And it would be nice if for once a spiritual teacher could give away life saving books and programs for free but it is too much to ask I suppose, if this is their only means of gaining income and thats just the way the world is structured. Andrea I recommend you win the lottery and live off the interest, then offer all services for free! If I ever become a spiritual teacher that is precisely what I will do. If I have all these powers of intuition…what can’t you do really?
Thanks for this. What you say is very true. Our mind is a tool that can be used to guide us in our decisions, but it must not be relied on completely. I have gone through similar struggles – I hear my soul’s message and begin to follow through, then my mind starts to analyse and produce doubts and fears, and then I would back out. When this happens, it’s a true test to following your true Self – don’t give up!
btw I remember now you’re offering a free course on intuitive development so kudos to you
. And of course after I type all that I notice you have 19 other articles on intuition that could very well have answered my question. darn
Hi Piotr – It’s actually pretty easy to discern intuition and imagination! If you check out http://www.igniteyourintuition.com – I cover that topic pretty extensively.
On the other point you bring up – I’m actually NOT a fan of spiritual teachers giving away books and/or programs, regardless of whether we also need to make a living or not. For the simple reason that people who INVEST are far more likely to take action. Over the years, I’ve given away soooo much that’s not been useful – simply because the recipient was interested, but not invested. There’s a huge difference!
When we invest, we make a commitment to ourselves to transform our experience. It’s powerful stuff.
@Fiona – Glad it resonated. It does take practice to learn to trust our Soul’s guidance. I’m with you – “don’t give up” is exactly right.
@Mary – Awesome quote, thank you for sharing!!!
@Ray – At the beginning of anything worthwhile, there always seems to be a required leap of faith! I always joke that it would be great if intuitive guidance came with a written guarantee from the Universe!
Unfortunately, it never does … leap away!!!!
Piotr, something you said is very interesting. You said, “We need a system, a procedure through which one may listen to the intuition and differentiate it from mental confusion!”
There are many ‘systems’ out there and one is kundalini yoga. Not only is it good for you physically, it is an ancient technology with the element of gaining control over the mind (as with yoga in general). It is a spiritual practice that you can use alongside many other practices.
